Appeal Following Assault And Car Theft In Rochdale

Officers are investigating following an assault in Rochdale. 

Shortly before 6.25pm on Wednesday 6 February 2019, police were called to reports that a man had been seriously injured following the theft of a car near to Albion Road. 

A 34-year-old man approached three men who were attempting to steal his red Toyota Hi-Lux. 

The trio attacked the man before they fled in the Toyota, leaving him injured in the road.  

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with several injuries including a fractured skull and broken fingers.  

The stolen car was later recovered near to Albert Royds Street and enquiries are ongoing. 

Detective Inspector Karl Ward from GMP’s Rochdale district said: “A man was left with serious head injuries at the hands of these attackers and we’re working hard to find those responsible.  

“We are keen to speak to those who were driving in a black BMW 1 Series around the time of the incident and were seen crossing the roundabout at Halifax Road towards Smithybridge at around 6.25pm. 

“I would urge anyone who witnessed this attack or anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem, to get in touch as soon as possible so that we can piece together the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
