At around 6.50pm on Thursday 11th April, we received a report of an assault in Tredegar.
The 19 year old male victim was in the Deighton Close area when an altercation took place with a group of youths. The victim was assaulted and received a facial injuries and a puncture wound to his torso. He was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. He is now recovering at home and is receiving support from officers.
Officers has since arrested nine male youths on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent; one aged 14 years, two aged 15 years, four aged 16 years, and two aged 17 year – all from the Blaenau-Gwent area.
They all remain in police custody at this time and are helping officers with their enquiries.
Blaenau Gwent Inspector Amanda Thomas said, “This was a violent incident which resulted in serious injuries for the victim. Thankfully he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home but this incident could have ended very differently.
"Officers are continuing with their investigation at this time, but I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident. If anyone has any information or witnessed this incident that will assist with our enquiries please 101 quoting log 446 11/4/19.
