He has now been named as 19 year old Rhys Dobson from the Pontypool area.
His family have released the following tribute;
“Our much beloved son Rhys Dobson was tragically killed in a RTC on 14th April in Varteg. As parents we are devastated to lose our cherished son who was just starting out in his adult life. We thank our friends and family and Gwent Police for their professionalism and compassion. We will always love him. We ask that people kindly respect our privacy in this difficult time.”
A 36 year old man from the Blaenavon area, was arrested on suspicion of death by driving without due care and failing to remain at the scene of a road traffic collision. He has since been released under investigation.
Officers are appealing for information from anyone that could help with their enquiries and would be particularly interested in hearing from the driver of a black coloured taxi which was seen driving along Varteg Road between 3.00am and 3.30am of Sunday morning.
