Following a significant investment of £ 10.27 million, Ysgol Godre'r Berwyn has officially opened its doors to pupils.

The area school located in Bala provides education for pupils aged 3 to 19 in the area. As well as major upgrades to the former Ysgol y Berwyn site, the campus includes a public library, as well as dedicated arts resources including a dance studio and theatre with a digital projector to show films.

The investment on the site has been jointly funded by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government as part of the 21st Century Schools scheme.

Councillor Cemlyn Williams, Gwynedd Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: “It's great to see that the area's children are starting to benefit from the fantastic resources available at Ysgol Godre'r Berwyn. There has been much anticipation in the Bala area for this important project and the significant investment in the children's education.

"The opening of the school will mean a significant improvement in the learning environment for the area's children with additional resources and facilities on a modern site that provides a 21st century learning environment."

Welcoming pupils to the school, Headteacher of Ysgol Godre'r Berwyn, Bethan Emyr Jones, said: “This is a very exciting time and I am delighted to welcome the pupils to the school. As staff we look forward to providing the highest quality education possible to pupils in the area.

“Our aim is to develop a school that puts children first, respecting and extending each individual to reach their full potential. This in turn will help develop principled, enterprising and ambitious young people who will always give their best. As a community school, we will make sure that the building offers something for everyone.”
