Caerphilly County Borough Council are proud to announce that Windy Ridge held a flag unveiling on the 9th of October to celebrate their amazing achievement.
Windy Ridge is a horticultural project for adults with Learning Disabilities run by employees of Caerphilly County Borough Council Community Support Services. The project has been running for 19 years and provides vocational training and support to individuals which will enable them to develop work based skills. They grow vegetables that exhibit in various county shows as well as carve pumpkins to sell to the public.
Hayley John, Senior Community Support Officer said “I felt that the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers and individuals who attend Windy Ridge deserved to be recognised so decided to nominate them for the Green Flag Community Award.
“I am proud to be part of such a fantastic team who have taken on the challenge with great enthusiasm and to also be a member of Team Caerphilly.”
The Green Flag Award is a scheme that recognises and rewards well managed green spaces and parks to help raise outdoor standards.
Winning the Award brings a number of different benefits from the status of being associated with an awards programme through to providing a great sense of civic pride.
Cllr Carl Cuss, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Wellbeing commented “What a fantastic achievement for a fantastic project. The Team Caerphilly ethos displayed by staff and individuals that attend Windy Ridge is outstanding. I look forward to hearing many more success stories in the future.”
