Applications Open For New Extra Care Accommodation In Maesteg And Ynysawdre

Tuesday 25th Sep 2018

Potential residents can now apply to live in the two new Extra Care developments that are nearing completion in Maesteg and Ynysawdre.

Ty Llwynderw, which is taking shape on the site of the former Maesteg Lower Comprehensive School, and Ty Ynysawdre, being developed next to Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen, are set to be completed in September/October 2018.

The new schemes are being built in partnership by Linc Cymru and Bridgend County Borough Council and residents living in the Extra Care flats will have their own tenancy through Linc.

Extra Care enables tenants to live within their own flats fitted with all the equipment they need to remain safe and independent, whilst also having on site access to care provided by the council. Each development will contain a range of communal facilities including a dining room, a lounge, a laundry room, salon, activity rooms and communal gardens.

The two new developments in Maesteg and Ynysawdre will allow tenants to continue to live independently and will help meet people’s changing needs as they grow older.

There will be a total of 45 Extra Care flats across the two developments, all of which will have either one or two bedrooms. If you or somebody you know would benefit from these Extra Care flats then I’d encourage you to find out more and apply for them as soon as possible.

Councillor Phil White, Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help

Richard Sheahan, Independent Living Manager at Linc Cymru, said: “We look forward to welcoming the first residents into these ground breaking facilities. These schemes will be valuable assets to the local community, providing Extra Care housing, residential care, and employment opportunities. If you are interested and meet the criteria, now is the time to apply.”

Potential residents need to meet certain eligibility criteria such as being a Bridgend County Borough resident, being in the main over 65 years of age, and must already have a plan of care and support from social services or be waiting for an assessment.

Costs include rent, a service charge (inclusive of heating, hot water, water rates and a midday meal), TV licence, council tax, electricity and contents insurance. Tenants may also be eligible for Housing Benefits, depending on their personal circumstances.
