Twelve Dogs Stolen From Three Addresses In Gwent

Friday 25th Jun 2021

Since Sunday, (26th July), 12 dogs have been stolen from three addresses across the Gwent force area.

It is believed Spaniels were targeted specifically.  Eleven in total were stolen, and one Jack Russell.

Three spaniels and one Jack Russell were taken from a shed at a property on Bedwellty Road in Markham sometime between 9.30pm on Sunday 26th July and 7am on Monday 27th July. (2000267861) (Three of the dogs stolen in this incident are pictured)

Two spaniels were stolen from a shed at a property on Pwll Y Pant in Caerphilly around 1.15am on Tuesday 28th July. (2000269142)

Six spaniels were stolen from outdoor kennels at a property on Broad Street Common in Newport sometime between 3am and 10.45am on Tuesday 28th July. (2000269543)

Officers are investigating and we’re appealing for anyone with information relating to these thefts to get in touch, call 101 or DM us quoting the relevant reference number.

Dog owners are also urged to take extra security measures to ensure the safety of their dogs:

  • Ensure your pet is microchipped – if your dog runs off and it is found, you can be easily traced as its owner. If your dog is stolen, when it is taken to the vets, they will discover that the dog is chipped and you will be identified as its rightful owner
  • Don’t leave dogs unattended in the street, however small and friendly the community
  • Don’t leave them alone in a car – particularly when the weather starts to warm up
  • Ensure your garden is secure and don’t leave them alone for long periods of time
  • If you keep them outside, make sure your property and kennels are secure
