Sunday 27th Sep 2020

Following the tragic death of a woman on Saturday evening, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed and/or filmed jet skis and a RIB on the Menai Straits between 5pm and 7.45pm.

At 7.29pm on Saturday, 8th of August, North Wales Police were notified by the Ambulance Service of a collision between a Jet Ski and a RIB on the Menai Straits.

Jane Walker, a 52 year old passenger on the rib, from the Staffordshire area was injured, taken ashore and treated by an ambulance crew. Regrettably, she subsequently died.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney said: ‘Following Mrs Walker’s death, North Wales Police has commenced an investigation to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to this collision.

‘Our initial enquiries indicate that at the time, the boat and jet ski were on the Menai Straits at a location between the slipway in Menai Bridge and the pier in Bangor.

‘The coroner for North West Wales Mr Dewi Pritchard Jones has been informed, and we are continuing to liaise with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) into the circumstances of this collision.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mrs Walker at this time.’

Jane’s family are deeply shocked and devastated by the sudden passing of their much loved family member. They request that they can be given some privacy at this extremely difficult time so they can grieve and come to terms with what has happened.
