We are asking people in the community to knit or crochet Buddy Bears for us for children who are victims of crime or who have been involved with a serious incident.
We have received 37 Bears and we are hoping to kit out every Police vehicle at Crewe LPU so that there is one for every child who needs one.
The Buddy Bears are there to change a way that a child remembers a traumatic situation and we so grateful to the members of the community that have already made the first 37 bears for us.
The project has gone international with us receiving six bears from a kind lady in Florida, USA who found out about this bear on a crochet Facebook page. The Buddy Bears have the support of Chief Inspector Simon Newell with PCSO Lizzie Jolley bringing the idea to Crewe Police after being inspired by the original initiative for the bears from Dorset Police which helped hundreds of children in a time of need.
If you would like to try your hand at knitting one of the buddy bears, download the PDF below for the Knitting Pattern.
