By royal appointment we are delighted to announce the arrival of our new regal litter. Please give a royal welcome to William, Kate, Meghan, George, Charlotte and Louis.

The 11-week-old Springer Spaniel pups come from a strong lineage, with both mum Nugget and dad Dibley being part of the West Midlands family. They are also siblings to the infamous Pup Idol litter.

In preparation for our next litter, we are appealing for puppy walkers to offer temporary homes and help socialise our police dogs in the making.

Fully vetted puppy walkers are responsible for homing their puppy, caring for their needs and crucially, helping them to socialise with people and other dogs.

Anybody over 18 can apply to be a puppy walker, if they have the time to look after the puppy and provide plenty of play time to allow it to develop within a happy, carefree environment.

At six months old, the puppies go through to the crucial six month assessment stage of their training back at the Dog Unit in Balsall Common to see if they have what it takes to become fully operational, effective police dogs.

If successful, they return to their puppy walkers for another few months before undergoing the final assessment stage and being assigned to a police handler ready to begin serious training.

Puppy walkers need to live within the West Midlands or on the very outskirts.

We are also asking for ideas on what to name our German Shepherd litter who are due to arrive in the next few weeks. Please leave your suggestions below.

If you’re interested in becoming a puppy walker email the breedscheme@west-midlands.pnn.police.uk to register your interest.
