You’re Never Too Old To Go For Gold

Wednesday 14th Nov 2018

Older residents and people with learning and physical disabilities are able to go for gold by staying active and sociable at Olympage events across Bridgend County Borough.

Pitched as an Olympics for older ages (Olymp-age) the sessions feature accessible activities such as boccia, bounce ball, target throw, badminton and shuffleboard.

Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council, the sessions can be found at the following venues:

  • Maesteg Life Centre training session: Monday 12 November, 12pm – 1pm
  • Garw Valley Life Centre training session: Monday 19 November, 11am – 1pm
  • Garw Valley Life Centre (Pontycymer): Every Monday, 11am – 2pm. Cost: £2

A new fortnightly Olympage session will also be starting in the New Year at Ogmore Life Centre from 11am – 12pm, contact the Life Centre on 01656 678845 for more details.

These Olympage sessions offer a fun way for elderly and disabled residents to keep active by enjoying a bit of sociable sport. There is a clear link between physical activity and improved mental health and well-being, so I am really pleased with the way that Olympage sessions have become established in so many of our local communities.

Councillor Dhanisha Patel, the council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations

Groups and individuals will also be able to complete in the Olympage Games at the Bethlehem Life Centre, Cefn Cribwr on on 4 December. There will also be a Winter Olympage event designed for people with learning disabilities that will be held at the Garw Valley Life Centre on 15 February 2019.
