Green Light For Middle Lane Extra Care Scheme
Members of Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee have given the green light to build 70 extra care apartments on the Middle Lane site in Denbigh.
The application was submitted by Grwp Cynefin, the housing association chosen by Denbighshire to draw up proposals for an extra care scheme in the town.
The application details included the demolition of the existing Middle Lane school buildings, the creation of 70 accommodation units and a community living unit.
The accommodation will consist of 42 two bedroom and 28 one bedroom apartments for people with extra care and supported living needs and a community living space for four individuals who need more formal care and support. Communal facilities will be provided in the main extra care building, including catering facilities in a café to assist those less able to prepare meals and to offer residents the chance to eat together.
Phil Gilroy, Head of Community Support Services, said: “Extra care schemes have proved extremely popular in Denbighshire, as they allow people to continue living independently in their own homes, with the reassurance that help and support is available 24 hours a day, should people need it.
“The scheme at Pentre Canol aims to provide top quality extra care service for residents of Denbigh and surrounding communities; the facilities are close to the town centre amenities and there are regular public transport services in and out of the town.
“This project is a prime example of great partnership working. The Council has worked closely with Grwp Cynefin to develop these proposals into a fit for purpose facility that meets the needs of older people in our community. This is a significant milestone in the on-going development of extra care in Denbighshire”.
Rhys Dafis, Grwp Cynefin’s Regeneration Services Director added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Denbighshire County Council on the regeneration of this site, which will provide much needed housing for older people in Denbigh.
“We will also be working with the local community to ensure the wider community benefits of the scheme are maximised.”
