Flash Mob Success in Manchester attracting Visitors’ attention ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An exciting, innovative and musical event was arranged, and then held at Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester on Saint David’s Day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visit Wales have a different theme for each year to promote tourism. Last year, the theme was “Adventure”, and this year the annual theme is “Legends”. The intention of the event was to raise awareness of “Year of Legends” 2017, which is a part of the RTEF project which is financed by Visit Wales’ funds. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Partners of the project include Gwynedd Council, Conwy Council, Anglesey Council as well as Snowdonia National Park. Gwynedd Council’s Customer Service, Marketing, Tourism Service was mainly responsible for arranging the Saint David Day celebration and launching The Wales Year of Legends. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The event, if you didn’t already know was a Flash Mob by Ysgol Glanaethwy Choir at Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester, Wednesday afternoon. It was extremely popular and a sweeping success! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Mandy Williams-Davies, Cabinet Member for Economy and The Arts said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This sweeping success at Manchester on the day, and then the success in the press and on social media after the event has been amazing. The positive attention the flash mob has received proves that creating an exciting, artistic and alternative event can be extremely valuable. The event has worked even better than expected. As a Council, we’re extremely glad and proud to be a partner and a part of this event to attract visitors to Gwynedd.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

An official video has been released of Glanaethwy Choir singing in the centre of the Arndale Shopping Centre; it has received a lot of attention and has been watched over 300,000 times. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Many independent videos are also online as many members of the public watching took videos and they also have received a lot of attention. Some of these have been watched 200,000 times. As well as social media, the launch received a lot of attention in Northwest England by reaching an audience of 19 million. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This event is a part of a wider marketing scheme which we will be implementing over the next months to raise awareness of the amazing tourism we in Gwynedd have to offer. Gwynedd has an unique heritage and this is an integral part of what we have to offer tourism. By co-working with Ysgol Glanaethwy, the event to launch “Wales- The Year of Legends 2017” allowed us to present and raise awareness of our culture and our Welsh Language, while producing a marketing affect and receiving a brilliant response. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
