Footbridge Set To Re-Open In Dinas Mawddwy

Work is nearing completion to install a new footbridge that will lead to the reopening of a popular path in Dinas Mawddwy. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Dolybont bridge across the Dyfi in Dinas Mawddwy was closed around two years ago as its condition meant that it was no longer safe for the public. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Now, having secured a funding package work is moving along well to install a new footbridge that will open to the public in the coming weeks. The project has been completed in two phases – a new pillar installed last autumn and with the wintery weather easing, work will now be carried out to install the new bridge which has been created by the Caernarfon ironworks company, Brunswick. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on footpaths said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The Dolybont bridge links a number of popular footpath routes in the Dinas Mawddwy area and we are very pleased that work to complete the new bridge will be completed in the next few weeks. It is an important local asset, and I am grateful to both the Maddwy Community Council and local community enterprise, Nod Glas Cyf fod their commitment to realising the project. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Located a few hundred metres from the village itself, work has been completed to install a pillar on which the new footbridge will sit, with the path itself set to reopen to the public in the very near future.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Local Gwynedd Councillor for the Corris / Mawddwy ward, John Pughe Roberts was delighted to see work progressing well. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He said: “I am grateful to everyone who has been part of securing funding for this important project for the area. The bridge links a number of paths in the area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Reopening the path will certainly be of benefit for local residents to enjoy, as well as visitors to the area looking to enjoy the fantastic countryside we have locally and hopefully deliver a welcome boost to the local economy.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The new Dolybont bridge has been funded by Gwynedd Council, Natural Resources Wales Rights of Way Improvement grant, the Snowdonia National Park Authority, Mawddwy Community Council and Cwmni Nod Glas. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
