PLANS to convert a chapel in Chirk into two semi-detached houses have been given the green light.
An application to transform Black Park Chapel in Halton into living space was submitted to Wrexham Council in June last year.
The Methodist chapel was first built as a place of worship in 1880, but has been used more recently as a community music facility.
A decision notice published on the local authority’s website shows permission to turn the property into two four-bedroom homes has now been granted.
The proposals were put forward by the Black Park Chapel Trust, which owns the building.
In a design and access statement, agents acting on their behalf said: “With the knowledge that this building has historical meaning to the community, it was crucial during the design stage to ensure that any changes made would respect the existing structure.
“We are utilising an existing resource and creating two residential units within an existing structure.
“The proposal will enhance the structure and ensure the building is converted to the highest standard.
“The conversions will ensure the buildings is overhauled and in a good state of repair, ensuring maintenance on the structure will not be required for a number of years.
“We feel this planning application should be looked upon favourably as we feel there are no justifiable reasons for refusal.”
According to the planning documents, access to the site will remain the same, with existing parking spaces being retained.
Changes to the windows and doors will be the only visual alterations to the outside of the building. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
