Community Council On The Lookout For Someone Keen To Help Older People Access Essential Services.
A vacancy is open at a Community Council for a vital worker who would help older and vulnerable people access the services and support available to them.
Rhosddu Community Council has a vacant position for a Community Agent, who would provide information to older people on a variety of services – ranging from benefits to activities and social groups.
Under the Community Agents scheme, representatives are assigned to seven different areas of the county borough – Ruabon, Penycae, Coedpoeth, Gwersyllt, Glyn Ceiriog, Caia Park, Glyn Traian and Rhosddu – and report directly to their local Community Council and help people over age of 50 to access services.
Feedback from service users has seen the scheme branded as “a bit of hope where there wasn’t any”, with others saying they have become “more involved” in their communities thanks to the help of agents.
As well as directing residents to services covering health and social care, Community Agents can also signpost in-need residents to other agencies from whom they might benefit.
They also provide information on social clubs, charities, community organisations, luncheon clubs and other support groups set up to help older people.
Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Community Agents are a key part of Wrexham Council’s drive to ensure older people can remain healthy and independent for longer.
“We’re looking for anyone keen to work with older people and provide them with the support needed.”
The role requires someone who can work 16 hours a week. This is a paid role and travel expenses are also provided. A laptop and mobile phone will also be provided for the successful applicant.
