A successful environmental action day has taken place for residents in the Offa area of Wrexham. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event was organised by the local Residents Association with the support of Local Member for Offa, Cllr Alun. Jenkins. It was sponsored by local contractor Gareth Morris Construction Limited, a contractor that has been delivering grant aided Housing Renewal re-roofing works as part of Wrexham County Borough Council’s Vibrant and Viable Places programme. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Residents were able to take any unwanted items along to the All Saints Church carpark on Poyser Street where they could be disposed of or recycled. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There was also an area set up for residents to leave items that could possibly be recycled by other members of the community. Gareth Morris Construction Ltd provided a bulk collection service which allowed residents to dispose of any unwanted furniture or white goods. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr. Alun Jenkins, ward member, said: “It’s great to see GMC taking an active role in the community and being available to provide services such as bulk collection of large items from residents who might not have the ability or means to move or recycle the item themselves. It was very pleasing too to see such an excellent response from local residents. We also wanted to use today’s event to discuss and advise on the changes to recycling and refuse collection which are due to take effect from October 3rd. The changes will make recycling more efficient so it’s important that we get local residents on board and I’m happy to say the response so far has been positive.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gareth Morris Construction Limited has been working with Wrexham County Borough Council in their position as a framework Main Contractor for a number of years supporting both the Vibrant and Viable Places and Specific Capital Grant programme. As part of their community benefit commitments they have also delivered a number of Health and Safety workshops at local primary schools with the aim of educating children about the dangers of living or playing near a construction sites. This was the third Community Cleanup Event sponsored by Gareth Morris Construction who have set up their site office at the Brickfield Pavilion. As a result of their occupancy of the Brickfield Pavilion and in agreement with Wrexham County Borough Council, much needed improvements will be made to the building before it is handed back over to Wrexham County Borough Council in 2017. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Craig Taylor of Gareth Morris Construction Ltd said; “We are extremely happy to have supported Wrexham County Borough Council and the local community with todays “Clean Up” event. Today’s event has seen a large presence from local residents and has led to the disposal of a significant amount of unwanted rubbish, together with the recycling of various electrical goods, timber and scrap metal. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have helped to organise and run today’s event and GMC look forward to providing our support, where possible, in the future” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Neil Rogers, lead member for Vibrant and Viable Places said; “Wrexham Council are working in partnership with Welsh Government on the Vibrant and Viable places programme and it’s great to see the benefit that contractors working within the programme are able to provide to the community”. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
