Plans Submitted to Convert Disused Wrexham Bookmakers Into Shop

PLANS to turn a disused bookmakers in Wrexham into a shop have been put forward.
Kashif Ahmad has applied to Wrexham Council to convert the former Betfred store on Regent Street in the city centre for retail use over two floors of the building.
It comes after the betting shop was closed in 2022 and services were relocated to another of the firm’s branches on Queen Street.
No details have been revealed regarding what kind of store could be located in the property situated between McDonald’s and Superdrug.
However, agents acting for Mr Ahmad said bringing the building back into use would benefit the wider city centre.
In a planning statement submitted to the local authority, they said: “The proposal involves the change of use from a betting shop to retail on both floors of the building.
“The change of use is considered appropriate at this town centre location which is served well by public transport modes.
“In addition, the provision of another retail facility will enhance the vitality and viability of the existing town centre.
“There are no proposals to change the design of the unit frontage and any future signage changes will be applied for separately.
“Access to the property is via two doors to the rear and the main entrance onto Regent Street. The entrance is level and accessible for all.”
Documents accompanying the proposals show up to five full time equivalent jobs could be created if the application is approved.
