Residents, Agencies And Volunteers Pitch In For Community Clean-Up
A team of council workers, community representatives and volunteers took part in a clean-up event on Poyser Street, Wrexham, last week.
Among those taking part in the event were Wrexham Council’s Environment Services, Gareth Morris Construction, Offa Residents Association and Offa Community Council.
Cllr Alun Jenkins, ward member for Offa, said: “I want to thank all those involved for the effort they put into this.
“We know residents take great pride in the appearance of their communities and area also aware of their environmental responsibilities, so we want to do all that we can to ensure they have the opportunity to clear out excess household waste wherever possible.
“Events such as these help to tackle problems such as improper disposal or fly-tipping before they even become an issue.”
Karen Benfield, Clerk of Offa Community Council, said: “On behalf of the Community Council, I’d like to thank all those who attended. It certainly helps to improve the appearance of the area and we encourage anyone interested to take part in future events.”
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The support of volunteers and outside agencies can be invaluable in helping to hold community clean-ups such as these, and as such I’m very pleased to see that the event was the success it was.”
Shane Hughes, Keep Wales Tidy Project Officer for Wrexham, added “Keep Wales Tidy was thrilled once again to be part of the Offa Community Council Clean-up Day on Poyser Street as the event on tied in nicely with our Spring Clean Cymru campaign, which took place between March 1 and March 5. Thanks to all who took part!”
