Award-Winning Student’s Kind-Hearted Gesture
A Cardiff School of Education undergraduate student who scooped an academic award for the quality of his work has donated his prize money to charity.
Ken Ebihara, who studied in the International Foundation Course last academic year, won £100 for best academic performance. In a generous move, Ken has split this cash between the NSPCC and Cathays and Central Youth and Community Project.
Ken has now progressed on to the BA (Hons) Youth and Community Work at the School of Education for the next three years.
Speaking about the donation, Ken said: “I am incredibly grateful to have been chosen for the best academic performance prize at graduation last year and would like to thank all tutors in the English Language Training Centre, especially Louise Cook and Gill Price. I would also like to thank Natalie Buckland from the International Office for all her help and assistance throughout the year.
“I decided to donate my prize money to the NSPCC and Cathays and Central Youth and Community Project as both organisations undertake important work with children and young people. I sincerely hope that this small gesture is of help and benefit to the indispensable work that both charities carry out day-to-day both on a local and national level.”
The NSPCC is the leading children’s charity in the UK, specialising in child protection and dedicated to the fight for every childhood. It is the only UK children’s charity with statutory powers and that means it can take action to safeguard children at risk of abuse.
Cathays and Central Youth and Community Project is a not-for-profit organisation and charity that aims to serve and provide for the community of Cathays and central Cardiff. It is managed by a voluntary committee of elected members from the local area.
