Newport Pupils Celebrate Chartists’ Legacy With Traditional March
Pupils from four Newport schools will be taking part in the annual march through the city to mark the anniversary of the Chartist Movement.
The Tin Shed Theatre Company has been working with youngsters from Maindee Primary, St Woolos Primary, Crindau Primary and Malpas Court Primary schools for the big event on Friday, 4 November.
The pupils will set off from Newport Cathedral, St Woolos, at 1pm and march down Stow Hill to Westgate Square for the re-enactment outside the former Westgate Hotel.
The children will be playing the part of the Chartists, the military, the crowd and politicians.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Newport, Councillor David Atwell and Mrs Carole Atwell and the Deputy Leader of the council, Councillor Ray Truman, will be attending the event.
A road closure will be in place for Stow Hill from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.
Residents are invited to come and show their support for the pupils on the day.
