Germany Lose On Penalties
The final of his year’s European Football Championships will be decided on penalties if a Schools’ Football Tournament is anything to go by and Germany will be the ones to miss out.
At a recent Sport Pembrokeshire Girls Euro 2016 competition held at Tasker Milward School, Milford Haven held their nerve to come up trumps pipping Pembroke School to the title.
Over 100 girls representing all eight of Pembrokeshire’s secondary schools attended the Princess Gate Water and Fair Trade Football sponsored event with each team representing a Nation from this year’s Euro 2016 football championships.
Milford Haven represented Hungary with Pembroke playing the part of Germany.
So often victorious in penalty shoot-outs in prestigious tournaments (showing this in their quarter final win over Italy over the weekend) in this event, Germany missed out as Hungary held their nerve to claim the title after a great final went into extra time.
Sport Pembrokeshire’s Wyndham Williams who helped organise the event said the level of football on display was exceptional.
“It’s fair to say there are some talented young female footballers in this County,” he said.
“Each team that took part represented their school, or in this case Country, with pride and in one way it was fitting that the title was decided on penalties.
“Losing a game like that is often seen a cruel but there really was nothing to choose between the teams on show.
“The popularity of Girls football in the County is growing all the time and with Wales’ success in this year’s European Football Tournament the game will grow further”.
