Join The Big Friendly Read At Your Local Library This Summer!

Libraries across Pembrokeshire will be celebrating 100 years of Roald Dahl as they take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘The Big Friendly Read’ will feature some of Roald Dahl’s best-loved characters and the amazing artwork of his principal illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The annual challenge encourages children to read six books during the summer holidays, with plenty of rewards and fun along the way. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This year’s ‘The Big Friendly Read’ will highlight themes such as invention, mischief and friendship which are explored in Roald Dahl’s most famous books. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Children can sign up for free to take part in the challenge at any library in the county, and a range of free storytime and activity sessions will take place at several libraries in Pembrokeshire. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Graphic designer Heidi Baker will visit a number of local libraries to run a special workshop entitled’ Small stories – create your own story in a matchbox’. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
