Journey To Attend A Ceremony Later This Week Marking The 100th Anniversary

A 1936 Morris 8 set off from County Hall in Haverfordwest on Monday afternoon on an 840-mile trip to France and back. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Classic car owner Simon Moffett from Crundale and his co-driver Stuart Churcher, are making the journey to attend a ceremony later this week marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Mametz Wood. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The First World War action – one of the bloodiest of the Somme campaign – featured soldiers of the 38th Welsh Division. There were 4,000 casualties. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Simon and Stuart are using the trip to raise money for Prostate Cymru and are hoping to raise £10 for every mile they cover. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

They are also taking with them a plaque on behalf of the 14th Signals Regiment stationed at Cawdor Barracks, Brawdy. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Before they were waved off in front of County Hall by supporters -including Pembrokeshire County Council Chairman Tony Brinsden – both Simon and Stuart attended a fund-raising breakfast in the nearby Bristol Trader hosted by Brian Harries, Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
