Playday Cheques For Children’s Ward
The children’s ward at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, has benefitted to the tune of £100 thanks to the recent National Playday held at Scolton Manor.
The Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS) – which helped deliver the event earlier this month – provided tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits to staff who worked in inclement weather to provide activities for the1500 people who attended.
Throughout the day PAVS members also provided refreshments to the public who generously donated £50 towards Ward 9 (the children’s ward) at the hospital.
Meanwhile local businessmen, Martin McGeown of Pembrokeshire Super Whippy – who was also at Scolton – was able to donate a further £50.
The County Council’s Play Sufficiency Officer, Damian Golden, said: “Although the activities run on National Playday were completely free, it is wonderful that money was still generated and donated.
“It will help buy play equipment to make children’s experiences in hospital as relaxed and as positive as possible.”
Senior Sister Sian Parry added: “We will be moving down to Ward 14 soon and we will have a new name to be announced in the middle of September.
“We are all really excited about the plans as we’ve been looking at decorations, new toys and storage cupboards. This money will go towards making the whole unit nice, bright and cheerful for the children.”
