Sport Pembrokeshire Lend A Hand
Never let it be said that the men and women at Sport Pembrokeshire are afraid to roll up their sleeves and knuckle down to some hard graft.
Because the staff of Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development team have been busy helping a local football club prepare for the new season.
Over a dozen of them descended on Clarbeston Road AFC one day last week armed with DIY equipment to volunteer their services.
It was the second of Sport Pembrokeshire’s ‘task force’ days where they lend a hand to a community sports club.
“Last year we helped Fishguard Sports football club” said Sport Pembrokeshire manager, Ben Field who first thought up the initiative.
“We chose Clarbeston Road because they are a pioneering club looking towards funding for some major plans at their ground and continue to develop grass roots football.”
Ben and his colleagues painted and decorated the changing rooms, painted a Portakabin and also strimmed, raked and cleared some grass banks.
“Everyone worked really hard and it was certainly a worthwhile exercise” said Ben afterwards. “We owe a big thank you to Valero for sponsoring the ‘task force’ day.”
The club was also grateful for the extra help.
Said vice-chairman, Huw Bevan: “This was a huge effort from the Sports Development team on the hottest day of the year. All members of the football club are volunteers and it takes a lot to run a club with nearly 200 active players.
“Any extra help is always welcome and this has been a massive boost for us. Clarbeston Road AFC is very grateful to the Sports Development team for their support and recognition of the work of the Club in the community.”
