Subway Building Nears Completion

A second project under the Haverfordwest Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is nearing completion. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Over the past few months, 2 Victoria Place – part of which overlooks Castle Square – has undergone a dramatic transformation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The latest project reintroduces the traditional form of a Georgian period building to the Haverfordwest townscape – a marked improvement from the 1960s concrete-framed building which went before. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The fast food outlet, Subway, will continue to trade from their new improved setting while new office and residential properties will replace the current vacant upper floor space. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The architects for the project are Pembroke Design Ltd with the works being undertaken by main contractors Andrew Scott Ltd. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The grant funders to the whole scheme are Pembrokeshire County Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw – the Welsh Government’s historic environment service. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Communities, Keith Lewis, said: “It’s wonderful to see signs of real regeneration in Haverfordwest. We are fortunate to have grant money available under the THI and I would encourage other property owners to take advantage of this scheme.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There are a number of further schemes in the pipeline, with the old Swales music shop buildings currently out to tender. This is the final chance for owners to come on board as all grant offers need to be in place by March next year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
