Councillors have approved the appointment of a new director of adult social services in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
At full council on Wednesday, November 29, full council gave its backing to the appointment of Sian Nowell to the position.
The start date for her role wasThursday, November 30, and the recommendation was made by the council’s appointments committee after an assessment centre recruitment process earlier in the month.
Councillor Sarah Jane Davies, chair of the appointments committee, said they had strong candidates and a rigorous selection process and they had the best candidate at the end of the day.
She said the calibre of the presentation and the interviewing skills were fantastic and it was so nice to have such a passionate presentation about how they’re going to develop and meet the challenges presented across adult services.
Council leader Andrew Morgan said the candidate came through very strong and had a really good understanding of the service and where the needs of the residents are.
He said he thinks they have a strong pair of hands based on the interview and presentation.
Councillor Maureen Webber, deputy leader of the council, said it’s absolutely the right recommendation and she said they’re fortunate to have someone of that calibre to take forward the role.
Councillor Karen Morgan, leader of the Plaid Cymru group, congratulated Sian Nowell and said the Plaid group wishes her well. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
