The Women’s Engineering Society (WES) is a charity and professional network of women engineers, scientists and technologists, offering inspiration, support and professional development. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

As a member of WES, Swansea University will experience a range of benefits including: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• Having access to a network of senior and experienced women engineers
• Keeping up-to-date with issues relevant to women’s engineering and events
• Building the University’s profile at events
• Organising or taking part in outreach events to inspire the next generation of young people and students. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Swansea University said: “Partnership with the Women’s Engineering Society will highlight that we avidly support an increase in the recruitment and retention of women in engineering and technical roles. It demonstrates commitment to our female employees, and builds the University’s reputation as a champion for equality.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Dr Camilla Knight, Athena SWAN lead for the College of Engineering at Swansea University said: “As Athena SWAN lead for the College of Engineering I am extremely excited that we have joined with the Women’s Engineering Society as an education partner. In recent years we have taken numerous steps to ensure that female students feel supported within our College, that female staff have appropriate opportunities for progression and development, and that we are all helping to raise the profile of women in the field of Engineering. Partnering with the Women’s Engineering Society is another important step in our work to ensure that the talents of all are recognised, supported and nurtured.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Professor Stephen Brown, Head of the College of Engineering said: “The College of Engineering is proud to become an education partner of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES). This is another step in our sincere commitment to increase the number of women joining and progressing their careers within engineering and sports science. We are also delighted to be able to offer free membership of WES to all of our female students as a benefit of this partnership.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The partnership follows the announcement this month that the College of Engineering has received an Athena SWAN Bronze award which recognises commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
