Cardiff Half Marathon Runners Raise Lifesaving Funds
Over 100 runners pounded the pavements of Cardiff, running around the capital’s famous landmarks, in aid of Wales Air Ambulance.
Fundraisers for Wales Air Ambulance ran the 13-mile course on Sunday October 2, to help keep the charity’s helicopters flying across Wales.
Over 100 red WAA vests could be spotted in the crowd of runners, who tackled the famous race in Cardiff.
Catrin Hall, Wales Air Ambulance Cardiff Community Coordinator, said: “This year we have received an amazing amount of support, with people raising an outstanding amount for Wales Air Ambulance.
“The conditions on the day were beautiful, and it was fantastic to see our fundraisers doing so well in the race!”
The course circled around the capital’s well-known sites, with 22,000 runners racing passed the Principality Stadium, the Millennium Centre and crossing the finish line at Cardiff’s city hall.
Keen runners and half-marathon novices conquered the race to help Wales Air Ambulance raise the £6.5 million needed every year to run its services.
Each lifesaving mission across Wales costs roughly £1,500 and since the charity launched on St David’s Day 2001, Wales Air Ambulance has completed over 25,000 missions.
Catrin said: “Every year we receive amazing support from runners in the Cardiff half, who raise fantastic donations for our charity.
“Without the support from people like them, we wouldn’t be able to complete our lifesaving missions across Wales.”
