Welsh Fashion Blogger Takes On Charity Shop Challenge
A Cardiff blogger has recreated catwalk looks from donated fashion finds in preparation for London Fashion Week, by taking part in a charity shop challenge.
Christy Llewellyn has run her fashion blog, Style Rarebit, for two years, documenting everything from high street couture to fashion reviews.
The Welsh blogger was invited to visit Wales Air Ambulance’s Pontypridd charity shop to search through the donated items for fashion treasure.
Christy said: “I started shopping in charity shops when I was a teenager and some of my most treasured pieces are thrifted.
“I think a lot of shoppers don’t realise the amazing potential of charity shop finds and obviously it raises money for an incredible charity too.
“I actually found my best ever purchase at the shop in Whitchurch, a Jaeger coat for £1!”
The UCA Fashion Graduate put her keen eye to the rails of the helicopter charity’s shop, to find key pieces amongst the donated clothes.
Christy turned her talents to transforming the pre-loved clothes into something new, in keeping with the up and coming fashion trends that will be spotted on the runway at London Fashion Week.
Christy created eight looks from the second hand clothes which are being sold to fund the charity’s missions across Wales.
The pre-loved looks she created ranged from 90s inspired outfits, to festival fashion.
All of the looks were created from pieces found in Wales Air Ambulance’s Pontypridd shop, which help to raise the £6 million needed every year to keep the charity’s helicopters flying.
Christy said: “I loved looking in the shop, there were so many amazing pieces and that really inspired me to get styling.
“I chose quite simple looks but I love that they are wearable, on trend and easy to emulate.
“I hope that this project will spread the word and encourage people to donate, shop and support Wales Air Ambulance so that they can continue to do the amazing work that they do.”
