Deadline Looms For Landlords And Agents To Comply With New Housing Legislation

The deadline for landlords and agents in Ceredigion to comply with new legislation is fast approaching.
Under the Welsh Government’s Housing (Wales) Act 2014, there are new legal obligations on all landlords to register, and for landlords and agents who manage rental property in Wales, to become licenced and undertake relevant training. The deadline to become registered, licenced and trained is Wednesday 23 November 2016. Non-compliance with the requirements of this legislation will constitute a statutory offence after this deadline. Therefore, if you are a landlord and/or agent who is yet to comply you must ensure that you do so as soon as possible as the processing of any licence application can take up to 8 weeks. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

To help local landlords and agents comply with this legislation, Rent Smart Wales and Ceredigion County Council will be holding several training courses across the county between now and the compliance deadline. Councillor Rhodri Evans, Cabinet Member for Lifestyle Services, said: “To date the courses have been very useful to landlords and agents, ensuring all those involved in the industry comply and are able to adjust fully to the new requirements.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
