Think For Yourself! Hate Crime Is Wrong. Report It!

Ceredigion County Council will show its support and commitment to the National Hate Crime Awareness Week by raising awareness within its’ communities as to what a Hate Crime or Incident is and also, how the same can be reported. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Additionally, the Council will be asking members of the public to ‘Think for themselves’, using a series of infographics produced on an All Wales basis to ask people to challenge their perceptions and misconceptions around certain community groups. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Leader of Ceredigion County Council, Ellen Ap Gwyn, said: “Hate Crime Awareness Week is an opportunity for us to highlight hate crime issues by reminding people of what hate crime is and how to respond to it through encouraging reporting, ensuring that victims have access to the required support, and promoting locally available support services and resources.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Working closely with Partners including the Dyfed-Powys Police, Victim Support, and others, Hate Crime Awareness Week provides a great opportunity to focus on diversity and to ensure that the ‘Think for Yourself! Hate Crime is Wrong. Report It’ message is widely shared. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

She adds: “As part of Ceredigion’s vision to be a welcoming County, we aim to be as inclusive as possible and we actively encourage people to report any hate crime incidents to build on and further strengthen our diverse but already cohesive communities”. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

During the week Dyfed-Powys Police Officers will be out and about in the community and speaking to the public to raise awareness of hate crime. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
