Nearly one in five Powys results for 2016 are at the highest grades A*-A (18.3%) and almost five out of every 10 results (48.3%) were at grades A*, A and B. More than 5% of results were at grade A* and a further 13% were at grade A. Results at grades A*-B remain higher than the all-Wales figure (48.1%). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Almost everyone who took a WJEC A-level in Powys passed (97.5%) and this remains higher than for Wales as a whole. Powys WJEC results at grades A*-C (76.3%) are 2.5% higher than the all-Wales figures for 2016 (all boards) and similar to results in England. Powys results from other examination boards are awaited. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The number of WJEC A-levels taken in Powys schools has decreased from 1,179 in 2015 to 1,013 in 2016 which represents a drop of 14%. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Councillor Arwel Jones, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “These are very good results clearly reflecting the dedication and hard work of pupils and teachers in all Powys schools. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Our warm congratulations go to all the young people on their well-deserved achievements and to all those who have supported them throughout their school careers. We wish all the students every success for the future.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
