Take A ‘Real’ Challenge And Save Hundreds
Parents are encouraged to make the switch from disposable nappies to ‘real’ cloth nappies during Real Nappy Week.
It’s the 20th annual Real Nappy Week which takes place from April 18-24 and aims to show parents how reusable nappies can help them save money as well as reduce waste.
Cllr John Powell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “Powys County Council fully supports this initiative and is offering up to £100 cashback against the purchase of nappies and accessories as an incentive to encourage parents that live in Powys to switch to real nappies.”
Modern real nappies are fun, fashionable and come in a range of styles designs and colours, from denim, spots to ruffles.
The average baby will need to wear disposable nappies for two and a half years, a cost of £650 to £1,300. Real nappies on the other hand cost just £200 for the same two and half year period. The savings really start to escalate when they are reused on subsequent children. You can use this calculator http://greatbritishnappyhunt.co.uk/calculator.html to work out exactly how much real nappies will save you.
Real nappies also benefit the environment as disposable nappies can take up to 500 years to breakdown in landfill. By simply switching to cloth nappies from disposables can prevent over 4,000 nappies from going to landfill.
