Take Part In Cycling Sportive
Cycling enthusiasts across Powys have the opportunity to take part in a sportive next month, on the day Britain’s biggest professional cycle race returns to the county.
The Builth Sportive will take on Wednesday 7 September, the same day Powys hosts the Stage 4 finish of this year’s Tour of Britain.
The sportive is being organised by John Lloyd Racing Events and will start and finish at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd, the venue for the Stage Four finish.
Starting at 8am, those taking part can either choose to ride 25 miles or 60 miles following a route along quiet roads with fabulous scenery and challenging climbs. There is a £20 fee to take part.
After completing the sportive under the same arch as The Tour of Britain, there will be an opportunity to enjoy an array of cycling-related activities, stalls and entertainment. There will also be a large screen at the venue that will show the last three hours of Stage 4 live (between 1-4pm).
Cllr Avril York, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The sportive is a wonderful way to start to celebrate the Tour of Britain finishing in Powys for the first time and I would encourage anyone interested in taking part to sign up so they don’t miss out.
“It is not every day that cyclists can cross the finish line of a stage finish of a Tour of Britain race but this sportive can give participants that chance a few hours before the race is due to finish as well as take in the stunning scenery in the area.
“We’re delighted that the Tour of Britain is returning to Powys and to have a race finish in the county for the first time is truly exciting.”
