Lego Workshops Set For Caerphilly Castle Return

Caerphilly Castle’s hugely popular Lego workshops – which see children learn to build creative structures from 1000s of the iconic plastic bricks – are set to return to the mighty historic site this summer.
Following a sell-out run back in Easter, the child-friendly interactive sessions will return to the castle’s Great Hall between the 15th and 31st August. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Welsh Government’s historic environment service, (Cadw) is hosting the events as part of its Historic Adventures campaign, which brings visitors one-of-a-kind experiences at Cadw sites during Visit Wales’s Year of Adventure – starting with the four metre-long dragon that broke the banks of Caerphilly Castle back in March. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Led by a Welsh Lego Education Innovation Studio, the two-hour castle-building workshops proved wildly popular among children when introduced last year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This time participants will also be tasked with an entirely new challenge – working together to build a Welsh dragon as a nod to Caerphilly Castle’s much-loved Historic Adventures dragon, which was recently revealed to be embarking upon a summer tour of castles up and down the country. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The events will also feature MincecraftEdu classes designed to promote creativity, collaboration and problem solving – while allowing children the chance to try out their dragon design skills digitally. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “The Lego workshops were an instant hit when launched back in 2014, and with this year’s sessions focusing on not only castle building, but on the iconic Welsh dragon, these events can continue to offer young people a gateway to engage with their heritage. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Suitable for young children aged 7-11, the workshops will take place twice daily and are expected to sell out rapidly due to a limit of only 25 spaces per session. Tickets for the event will cost £8 and can be bought on Eventbrite. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The workshops take place twice daily at Caerphilly Castle on the: 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th, 31st August. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
