May Bank Holiday Events Announced At Cadw Sites

The Welsh Government’s historic environment service, (Cadw), is encouraging people to make the most of their local heritage sites this May by hosting a programme of family events over spring bank holiday weekend (28–30 May). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

From battle reconstructions at some of the largest castles in Wales, to trying your hand at medieval activities, there will be something for everyone at Cadw sites over the long weekend, offering entertainment for the whole family. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Highlights include a dragon parade at Raglan Castle’s ‘Myths and Legends’ celebrations, which will see a mighty ‘Knights versus Dragon’ showdown, along with live music, crafts and games in the fairies’ magical forest. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Beaumaris Castle will also be heading back in time to welcome knights from the medieval era over the bank holiday weekend, re-creating castle life with archery displays and spear drills. Guests will have the chance to become a knight for the day and try on some chainmail armour for size. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

More than two and a half million people visit Cadw’s 128 sites every year to explore captivating castles, palaces, abbeys, industrial and prehistoric monuments. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Visitors to Cadw sites are being encouraged to share their experiences on social media by using the hashtag #HistoricAdventures. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
