Communities Secretary Sees How Welsh Government Funding Is Helping North Wales Women
Communities Secretary Carl Sargeant today visited the North Wales Women’s Centre to see how Welsh Government funding has contributed to the building’s renovation.
Located in Rhyl, the building is a ‘one stop shop’ providing women affected by domestic abuse with access to information, support and training on issues relating to health, wellbeing and work. The centre provides services to around 80 women each day and is supported by more than 40 volunteers.
The Welsh Government has provided £475,000 for the purchase and refurbishment of the building since 2009, through the Domestic Abuse Services Grant.
The Cabinet Secretary said:
“I have been very impressed with what I have seen here today. The centre has worked to improve the health, confidence, and livelihoods of many women, transforming their lives and offering them hope.
“The Welsh Government is committed to doing all it can to help victims of violence and domestic abuse and to ensure they are supported and can live safely within their local communities. Being able to deliver vital services in such welcoming surroundings is key to promoting their dignity and respect.”
