Kirsty Williams Officially Opens New £8m Pontprennau Primary SchoolEducation Secretary Kirsty Williams Received A Warm Welcome As She Officially Opened The New £8m Pontprennau Primary School In Cardiff Today (Thurs 8th Sept).

The Welsh Government has provided £4.128m through the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme towards the new buildings which cost a total of £8.256m. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pontprennau Primary School is a community-focused school, the first of its kind in Cardiff with facilities available for the school during the day and for community use out of school hours. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The lower level of the school opened in September 2015 to admit nursery and reception pupils, and the school will grow year on year to be full with 420 pupils plus 48 full time nursery pupils by 2021. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Kirsty Williams said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I am delighted to officially open this new school where these wonderful £8m new facilities will help meet the demand for places in the community. Pupils and staff now have the advantage of having this community-focused school, meaning both they and the wider community can use and benefit from these facilities.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Welsh Government is providing Cardiff Council with £82m of new funding for their £164.1 million programme to improve school buildings. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
