Teachers And Staff Are An Inspiration For The Nation – Kirsty Williams
Education Secretary Kirsty Williams will praise the inspirational role played by teachers and support staff, during a speech later today (Thurs 10th Nov).
At the National Association of Head Teachers Cymru national conference, she is expected to tell members:
“I find it truly inspiring when I meet teachers, support staff, head teachers and pupils right across the country. You are inspirational in what you do, and why you have chosen to do it. You are nation-builders.
“Helping build brighter futures for our youngest citizens, so that they can contribute to, and create, a prosperous, culturally-rich and confident nation. And you have made a conscious decision to take responsibility, to take a chance and become leaders. I thank you for making that choice. Because I know it’s not always easy. Actually I know it’s never easy. But I know that you get stuck in every day exactly because it’s not easy”.
The Education Secretary will outline how education reform is Wales’ national mission and how working with teachers she wants to deliver a range of policies, including a new curriculum, extending the Pupil Deprivation Grant, reducing infant class sizes and reforming teacher training and get more of our best young people into the profession;
Kirsty Williams will add:
“I describe our education reforms as our – and I mean our – national mission. Nothing is more important than working together to ensure that our young people have an equal opportunity to reach the highest standards. I’m optimistic that we can work together to reach those standards. Supporting you – as our head-teachers and leaders – is key to our success in raising standards and raising our ambitions.”
