First ‘Wales Coastal Practitioners’ Conference’
Coastal experts and professionals from across the UK will gather in Llandudno on the 27 and 28 of April for the ‘Wales Coastal Practitioners’ Conference 2016’ .
The conference will showcase the work that NRW and other partners do to manage our coastline for the benefit of the environment, people and the economy.
This is the first time a conference of this kind has been hosted in Wales.
Expert keynote speakers will address the two-day conference, and there will be site visits to Llandudno North Shore, Deganwy, Llanddulas and finishing at Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay.
Speaking ahead of the conference Emyr Roberts, Chief Executive, said:
“The coast has an important place in our hearts and minds in Wales and this conference is a great chance for us to show the work that we are doing along our 1000 mile coastline.
“We know that 40% of all overnight stays by tourists in Wales are at the coast, and many enjoy the National Nature Reserves and the Wales Coast Path during their visits. 60% of our population live on the coast, and we have 260 miles of man-made coastal defences. With future climate change likely to increase the risk of coastal flooding and coastal erosion, people living on our coast face ever increasing challenges. This conference hopes to share best practice for how to best manage these issues. I very much welcome the conference to Llandudno and look forward to learning much more about all the diverse work that happens along Wales’ beautiful coastline”.
