NRW Celebrates World Fish Migration Day
We are celebrating World Fish Migration day this Saturday with events for people in North and South Wales.
The aim of the day on Saturday 21 May is to raise awareness of the journeys and obstacles that fish navigate on their way upstream and downstream to breed and feed.
The events will provide an opportunity to see fish passes and a fish trap and learn more about how NRW enables and monitors fish movements.
For people in North Wales
The NRW-operated fish-trap on the River Dee at Chester Weir will be open between 11am-2pm. People and families can come along to have a look at the trap, learn how it works and hopefully see some fish in the trap.
The Welsh Dee Trust will also be there to talk about how they are working with NRW to improve the river for fish and wildlife as will the North Wales Wildlife Trust who can explain all about invasive species on our rivers and the harm they can cause.
For people in South Wales
A family fun day is being held at the fish pass on Cardiff Bay Barrage between 12noon-4pm. The event is jointly organised with Cardiff Harbour Authority, the South East Wales Rivers Trust, and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and promises talks, face painting, competitions, games and arts and crafts.
In addition there will be an opportunity to learn more about the fish pass, the fish that are using it every day, and the underwater environment.
