Risca flood scheme update

Work to reduce flood risk to homes and businesses in the Crosskeys and Risca areas of Caerphilly from the River Ebbw is continuing, with works at Waunfawr Park and Crescent Road restarting in April. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Once complete, the scheme by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC) will protect over 200 homes and businesses from flooding. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Construction of the scheme had originally started in November 2015, but due to a burst main water on the site, the work has been delayed by four months and is now due to be completed by late summer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Melissa Mahavar-Snow, Project Manager at Natural Resources Wales said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Unfortunately, following a high-pressure burst of a water main near the works, the design of the flood scheme has had to be amended. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We have been working closely with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) and CCBC to review options and have now agreed solutions for both Waunfawr Park and Crescent Road. These proposals have been submitted for a revised planning application. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
