Wales is where the adventure starts in 2016 – find out more.
The perfect playground for adventurers
Thanks to its outstanding natural landscapes and rich and distinctive culture, Wales is fast becoming one of the UK’s leading adventure capitals.
The mountain bike centres at places like Coed y Brenin are amongst the best in the world and the three National Parks, endless mountain ranges and 870 miles of coastline make Wales the perfect playground for adventurers.
Visit Wales, the Welsh Government’s tourism team, has launched a campaign to celebrate Wales as an active and vibrant place to visit during 2016. The Year of Adventure campaign aims to inspire us all to get out there and explore the best of what Wales has to offer.
Adventures for all
Adventure means different things to different people.
You may have always wanted to watch the sun rise on your favourite mountain, spot dolphins from the coastal path, fly on a zip wire or sleep under the stars.
Here in Wales you can do all this and much more! And the really great thing is that Wales offers a wide range of adventures for all ages and all abilities.
Adventures in woodlands and National Nature Reserves
Natural Resources Wales is one of the biggest providers of outdoor recreation facilities in Wales. Our 550 kilometres of mountain biking trails, five visitor centres and 75 picnic areas are set in woodlands and National Nature Reserves in some of the most stunning parts of the country where you can:
Set out on a woodland walk with a difference and enjoy wide-ranging views from a Giant’s Chair, discover the source of the River Severn in a deep peatbog or follow in the footsteps of famous landscape painter William Turner.
Start your mountain bike adventure at one of our centres with a skills area where you can develop riding techniques before heading out on a waymarked trail.
Embark on a nature adventure and follow a boardwalk over a massive raised bog, explore huge sand dunes or spot wild birds amongst reed beds and saline lagoons.
Take your pick from a selection of adventures in our woodlands and National Nature Reserves.
Adventures for children – fun and educational!
Getting outdoors is a great way to stay healthy and a fun way to boost your child’s learning.
Children (and parents!) can learn a huge amount without a computer screen in sight!
Our Education team give some seasonal suggestions about some activities you could try, making your time outdoors fun as well educational.
