More babies and toddlers are making a splash at Anglesey leisure centres after special new swimming lessons were introduced. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Splash Lessons are helping to promote exercise and water confidence from a very early age. Parents or guardians can now take children as young as four-months-old to join in at any of the Island’s three swimming pools. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There are 6 Splash Levels – as recommended by the Swim Wales ‘Aqua Passport’ syllabus – ranging from ‘Splash 1’ (4-18 months) to ‘Splash 6’ (3 years +). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Splash lessons are currently held at: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• Plas Arthur Leisure Centre, Llangefni – Monday, 12 – 12.30pm; Wednesday, 12.00 – 1.30pm ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

• Amlwch Leisure Centre – Thursday, 9.45 – 10.15am (also includes a soft play session 10.30 – 11.00am) ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There are many reasons to introduce your baby to the water at an early age: exercise for both baby and parent, raising awareness of water safety, as well as developing balance, co-ordination and water skills. Familiarising toddlers to water at an early age may also prevent a fear developing later in life. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Economic and Community Regeneration portfolio holder, Councillor Ieuan Williams, has welcomed the new initiative. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Williams said, “We’re confident that the introduction of the Splash Lessons will be the start of a fantastic swimming journey for many more Anglesey children. With obesity affecting many young children, it’s important that they starting exercise at an early age. Promoting water safety and confidence amongst the young is also vital as we live on an Island.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The take-up has been very good so far and I’d encourage other parents to contact their local leisure centres if they’re interested in enrolling their children to get them swimming as soon as possible.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Leisure Commercial Manager, Gerallt Roberts, added, “In the past, there have been many children arriving at their first school swimming lesson lacking in confidence. Splash lessons are providing a great opportunity to encourage water confidence and safety from an early age. It’s also great to see parents bonding with their little ones and gaining valuable exercise and skills in the water.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Each Splash lessons is 30 minutes long. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
