Executive Reaffirms Formal Consultation On Llawr Y Dref
Anglesey’s Executive today (Thursday, May 26th) reaffirmed its intention to hold a formal consultation with tenants living at Llawr y Dref in Llangefni.
The formal consultation with tenants, which is to start next month, will include proposals to change the designation of the sheltered housing scheme to general housing needs as well as those over the age of 60, improving security arrangements together with improving individual flats and the general building.
A wider consultation will also be undertaken which will include Police, Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and local residents.
On April 25th, the Executive approved plans to change the designation of Llawr y Dref as well undertaking work to make the building more attractive to tenants. However, the decision was called-in before the Corporate Scrutiny Committee citing a lack of consultation and concerns raised by tenants and Police.
Today, Executive members approved a formal consultation process with all tenants and key stakeholders.
Council Leader, Councillor Ieuan Williams, said, “When originally approving the proposals in April, we had made it clear that it was on the condition of a thorough consultation with all stakeholders to ensure that they were fully involved in the development of Llawr y Dref.”
He added, “We accept that the informal consultation previously held with tenants was not sufficient and we were today happy to reaffirm our intention to hold a formal consultation with tenants and all interested parties.”
Changing the designation of Llawr y Dref will help the County Council increase its housing options for the residents of Anglesey.
Housing Services Business Manager, Ned Michael, added, “It has always been our intention to ensure that any remodelling work to Llawr y Dref is undertaken sensitively following a formal consultation period with our tenants and in partnership with key stakeholders.”
