Valley Community Council introduces free parking
An agreement between the County Council and Valley Community Council is providing free parking at the public car park on Station Road.
The car park was previously subject to pay and display charges but the Community Council has agreed to reimburse the Highways Service for the loss of income in exchange for free parking.
Head of Highways, Waste and Property Service, Dewi Williams said, “The initiative shown by the Community Council is a great example of how we can work together effectively.”
“Reduced budgets and continued costs of maintaining both pay and display and free public parking facilities across the Island is forcing the County Council to evaluate these sites and consider initiatives to secure income. I hope to see other community councils entering into a similar agreement with us. This would provide free parking in their locality, and avoid the introduction of pay and display.”
The free parking facility has been welcomed by Highways portfolio holder, councillor John Arwel Roberts, Llifon Ward county councillors, Richard Dew and Gwilym O Jones, and Valley Community Council.
The new free public parking facility has been signed on Station Road and an information board within the car park provides the conditions of use. Drivers are encouraged to make use of the free parking available and not to park on the nearby double yellow lines. This will help with deliveries; improve the flow of traffic and road safety for both pedestrians and other motorists.
