Two Finals Places For Bangor In CIWM Sustainability & Resource Awards
Bangor University is among the high flyers with not just one but two places in the prestigious Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) finals of this year’s Sustainability & Resource Awards.
Speaking on behalf of the teams in the finals, Bangor’s Circular Economy and Resource specialist at The Sustainability Lab Rebecca Colley-Jones states:
“We’re really excited to be finalists for our #LoveHalls and #LoveYourClothes Bangor campaigns. We’re proud to be instilling a legacy of recycling and reuse in our students, staff and the wider Bangor community, and being in the finals of these awards recognises our wider commitment to be The Sustainable University and to inspire others to move towards sustainability and wellbeing.”
Judged by the most respected experts in the sector, these long-standing awards are given for outstanding achievement in the sustainability, resource and waste industries. They showcase projects, innovations and resource management endeavours from the past 12 months and are entered and sponsored by organisations and thought leaders from all over the UK who are passionate about excellence.
This is the first year that Bangor University has entered the awards and it has been successful in reaching the finals of both the categories it entered – Best Reuse and Waste Prevention Project for its #LoveYourClothesBangor campaign, and Best Resources Project by Facilities Management for its #LoveHalls campaign.
CIWM received a record number of entries this year.
Tina Benfield, a fellow of CIWM and its technical manager, said:
“Not only the most entries ever but the most impressive too. It’s a fantastic testament to the brilliant work going on right across the industry from which all of us can learn.”
Bangor is the only university to reach the finals and is competing alongside famous national and international companies such as Aldi, Jaguar Landrover and London & Whipsnade Zoo, environmental consultancies such as Ramboll Environ, and large public sector organisations including Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and several county and city councils. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 3rd November at Grosvenor Square Marriott, London.
