Exciting Chapter In High School’s History
A major milestone has been reached in the history of the brand new high school being built in Rhyl – with the keys officially handed over to the headteachers.
The £25 million brand new high school has been built on Rhyl High’s school playing fields and will accommodate 1,200 pupils as well as providing a base for 45 pupils from the nearby community special school, Ysgol Tir Morfa.
The project is being funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government 21st Century Schools and Education programme.
The work has been carried out by construction firm Willmott Dixon.
Keys have been officially handed over during an official tour to see the completed building project. Pupils from Rhyl High and Ysgol Tir Morfa are expected to move into the building in mid-April.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Education, said: “The fantastic new building is great news for the future generation of pupils from Rhyl High and Tir Morfa who will now benefit from a modern, fit for purpose school fit for the 21st Century.
“The Council is proud to have worked so closely with Welsh Government, Wilmott Dixon and representatives of both schools to deliver an excellent building project.
“This project is a key example of how Denbighshire, working with Welsh Government is investing in improving school buildings and making sure that both our students and the wider community benefit from this major investment”.
